Compression applications

Windows 7 operating systems (and its newer versions) provide the possibility to compress files as .zip.

IZArc Accepts many compression formats.

 

WinRar

Well-known for the .RAR option, but it does not include as many formats as the tools listed above.
The Unarchiver A manager for compressed files that is included in Apple operating system. Accepts many formats for de-compression, but only provides .zip files.

Sending files on-line

pCloud Transfer Up to 5GB-files may be sent. Free, no registration required. Easy to use, you just need to drag the file and include the recipient’s e-mail. File encryption is also available.
WeTransfer Up to 2GB-files may be sent. As in the tool listed above, you just need to include the recipient’s e-mail and the sender’s e-mail (they will send the sender an e-mail when the recipient has downloaded the files). Apart from the previously mentioned option, a link may be generated to decide how to share the files. The basic plan is enough for an occasional use, but a paid plan with better features is also available.
DropSend This is a paid tool, but it includes a free plan where files may be shared within some limits. Files up to 4GB may be downloaded (max. 5 transfers per month).
Filemail Files up to 30 GB may be sent using the free version, but they will only be available for download for a week.

Cloud storage

You may also use the tools described in the “Cloud storage” strategy and share the link with the recipient, so that he/she may download the file: Dropbox, Drive, Outlook…
